The speculation about this year's gaming ceremony was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another tactical title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs only possible if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
