The tournament joins the American and Australian Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Replay systems are set to arrive at The Championships this year.
Competitors are granted the ability to contest specific rulings from the official, following the system already in place at both the American Grand Slam and the Australian Open.
The new system will be accessible on the main stadium and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players will not be permitted to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the official to review specific situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball made contact with an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Importantly, there will be no cap on the amount of challenges a competitor can ask for.
Case in Point
A recent case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Broader Adoption
Video reviews are not new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Additionally, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews in place at all of its tournaments.
Other Changes
Another change at Wimbledon 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where spectators have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
